Lachen gurudongmor lachung

This long route in Sikkim is a tedious, but beautiful one. Make your way from Lachen to the gorgeous Gurudongmar Lake. This magnificent water body is one of the highest lakes in the world and is located at an altitude of 5,430 metres. The lake is named after Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, who was the founder of Tibetan Buddhism and visited the lake in the 8th century. The next section takes you down to Lachung, which is at an elevation of about 2,900 metres and sits at the confluence of the Lachen and Lachung rivers. Lachung has understandably been described as the "most picturesque village of Sikkim" by the British explorer Joseph Dalton Hooker in The Himalayan Journal.
